On May 6th 2017, I'm walking in Darkness Into Light UCC Cork as part of a global movement to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of suicide and self harm, and for suicide bereavement services.
On Sunday December 18th 2016, we lost Lamar to suicide. Anyone that would have known him will know what a beautiful human being he was, which made it absolutely heart-breaking to lose him. So I’m running Darkness into Light 2017 in memory of my brother and so that people can get the help and support that they need.
Pieta House offers bereavement support to families who have lost a loved one to suicide, a service which my family has been so grateful to receive and has really helped us through such an impossible time.
There are very few people I know that have not suffered from a mental health illness, including myself, and yet the topic is still very much taboo. Suicide has become a national epidemic with most people I know have lost someone close to them to suicide. The funds I raise will enable Pieta House to provide life-saving support to those living in the shadows and support other organisations doing similar work around the world.
